Open source companies think the right license will protect them from being crushed by the big cloud providers. It won’t.
Failure is the default in business. If you build it, probably no one will come. Open source helps companies create greater adoption and a larger market share. However, it essentially sets the price to zero.
I agree with Andrew Oliver here: the discussions over the new stream of commercial open source licenses are missing the point. Doing business is hard, open source worked as a shortcut to fame for a while but the Software-As-A-Service model breaks the game.
